What is a Prepaid Calling Card?

 

Prepaid calling cards can be bought at almost any store and is a card the size of a credit card.

These cards hold information that will allow the user to call either local or long distance according to the amount of the card’s price. The card typically has a 800 number toll free which must be called first. At the back of the card, you find a number which must then be dialled in order to activate the service. After this, you dial the number you wish to call and a switch at the other end will route the call to that number. This switch will measure the amount of credit that you have on your card and determine the duration of the call according to that credit. Normal Pre-paid Calling Cards have credits of $5, $10, $20, $50, etc.

Prepaid Calling Cards are issued both by carriers or other companies and are the tolls charged are usually cheaper than normal phone calls.

Due to the vast use of prepaid calling cards, there are now many types available:

- Prepaid calling cards for local calls

- Prepaid calling cards for long distance calls

- Prepaid calling cards for international calls

- Prepaid calling cards for cell phone to cell phone

- Prepaid calling cards for regular phones to cell phones
