The Industry Today
Telco Mergers
With the recent mergers of SBC with AT&T and Verizon with MCI,
the Telco industry is most likely to heat up. Each company can now
provide local, long distance, internet and wireless services. For
the consumer this is most probably good news, considering the fact
that competition will affect service prices and technology development
will bring us more efficient forms of communication.
Where once the telecom industry was divided into local and long
distance companies, these multi-billion mergers are the beginning
of a new era of telecommunications. On the other hand, the remaining
telcos will have to develop strategies in order to compete with
these two new giants that seem to establish a firm dominion over
the industry.
